Family Vision

San Jacinto Methodist Hospital's Family Vision is a new high-quality video link between San Jacinto Methodist Hospital and Texas Children's Newborn Center®. The program gives parents precious moments with their child during a difficult time.

The new program allows parents at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital to visit their baby via a video monitor equipped with speakers and a camera. An identical unit with a headset is placed at the baby's side at Texas Children's as the baby's nurse updates the parents and answers questions. The service is now available to mothers hospitalized at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital and to mothers who have been discharged but whose infants remain at Texas Children's. Of the nearly 2,000 babies born at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital each year, only one to two percent are expected to need advanced care at Texas Children's Newborn Center. Most stay in the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital's newly renovated Maternal/Child Unit's 16-bed Level I nursery for healthy newborns or the eight bed Level II nursery for those who require medical intervention. Babies born severely premature (before 32 weeks) or with serious medical conditions may need the advanced care available at Texas Children's Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

"We're delighted to be able to add to parents' peace of mind," says Madelen Franco, RNC, Director of San Jacinto's Maternal/Child Unit. "Our smallest patients are getting the best care, either here in their own community or at one of the best children's hospitals in the country. Our care has always been patient-centered, and now we have a partner in maintaining our standards."
