Radiofrequency Ablation
This is a relatively new procedure in which probes are placed into liver tumors and heat is used to destroy the tumor cells. This procedure can be done using a laparascope without open surgery in many cases. Radiofrequency ablation can be considered for patients with primary liver cancers or cancer metastatic to the liver who are not resection candidates. Tumors up to 5 cm. as well as multiple tumors can be treated effectively with this technique.
